I don't remember doing this on my 1999 but might be different

Steve -- I appreciate the offer. Hold off on disturbing the neighbors for now. I had about an hour of quality wrenching time this morning and it is amazing what a good night's sleep and choosing to use that thing between my ears can produce. I've got it pretty much all doped out (without too many "extra" parts leftover) but will have to tackle the power steering pump "protector," probably this evening or tomorrow morning. Then all the fluids get refilled, etc. I may need a new idler pulley as well. For the moment, crisis averted.

Ah...my 1999 won't help. The ps reservoir moved to the hanging off the coolant reservoir in 1999 instead of sitting over the pump so the brackets are all different

The secret to life is that the bolts go though the hole in the pulley.

Motion for demotion to 2.5 rivers is denied - the sign of a good mechanic is not compounding a problem by fubaring it worse - but stepping back and getting help and/or applying grey matter and time to problem. Dont apply so much time that the chipmunks set up residence though..

I thought that was the new K&N internal filter material.

OK, so now I really am in a pickle. I was buttoning up everything this morning and got to literally the last bolt -- the lower bolt for the serpentine belt tensioner bracket. I got the top bolt on no problem, but can't figure out how to get the bottom one on. The bolt hole is behind the power steering pump pulley and the hole cannot be accessed through the pulley cut-outs. I don't recall having any trouble accessing that particular bolt for removal, either at the junkyard or when doing disassembly at home.

What am I missing?

Maybe it goes on before the PS pump?

Doesn't the pump release after you loosen the four bolts and move out of the way?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, except that to remove the pump from the engine bay, I left it connected to the power steering pump pulley (which is the source of the interference) and just lifted it out on the mounting bracket. I am truly stumped on this one, since I removed the tensioner from the car while the power steering unit was in place (or so I thought).
