P80 mistake 20-666

When you are doing struts and rotors and your caliper bracket bolts bottom out before the brackets are tight.....


It’s because you mixed up a strut bolt with a caliper bracket bolt

Crappy caliper slide pins too

Second broken Sachs quick strut spring

And this pairs well with P1 mistake 310H55A, forgetting that you didn't put thread locker on the caliper mount bolts of your XC90, then wondering what the noise and grab are in the front end at 70 on the freeway, when the caliper shifts on the rotor because a bolt backed completely out! Which leads to pulling a wheel in the middle of an off-ramp to swap the bolt location until you can limp it to Tractor supply in East Nowhere, but they had the right sized M10 bolt and blue Loctite. Won't forget that again!
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

On a P80 you don’t need no stinkin’ loctite. Rust is your threadlocker.

I still think the best signature locking mechanism that Volvo designed was steel bolts in aluminum housings. Allow to age in the engine heat for 20 years. That's one fine threadlocker.

They had to choose the appropriate aluminum alloy to get the bolts to seize like that. Ironically the more expensive higher strength alloys also corrode more.
