After a year and a half I finally topk the tome do do this. What a great and easy mod just in case. No more hoping nothing breaks when pulling the hood latch lever.
Summer: 1996 855 R

I rarely use the inside release lever because I don't want to break it. If you look, it's a pretty easy reach latch from down in front. I don't even have to lay down anymore to do it. From underneath reach up inboard of the ATF line going into the radiator and up behind the DS headlight and push the tab on the latch. I wrapped mine in tape to make it more comfortable to push, with a wire hanging down to make it easy to find and follow from underneath. Pushing it releases both latches. Could not be any easier.

Quite interesting how you get your hand in there. Is this a Turbo with AC?
I guess you don't have the splash shield on?

No - splash guard. In fact I didn't know these cars came with one. PO's indy shop must have removed it.
Hadn't noticed them in RobertsDYI video either, but now I'm thinking I might want to pick one up. Not that I ever drive in the rain.

Yes, came with splash guard. Most P80 cars don't have them any more unless they were replaced.

I guess it's going to come down to which is more likely to occur; damage to something under the hood from water etc because I don't have a splash guard, or breaking the lever for the hood release because I'm under there so often.
Going to have to think this over....

Seems like you're doing ok with no splash guard as are most P80 cars out there ... I like the splash guard but really I think the main thing they keep out is dirt.
