Either a vacuum leak or the switch is faulty. Best sort it out before it burns out the vacuum pump

I got my new thermostat housing today. I also looked at the location, and it's behind the power steering pump. Not easy to get to, and I don't have a set of Torx sockets unfortunately. But your tip to disconnect the radiator fan might tie me over until spring.jonesg wrote: ↑20 Dec 2023, 12:24yeh, thats it, the computer isn't getting a signal so it defaults to over heating engine and turns the fan on.
you can unplug the cooling fan until you get a sensor otherwise the engine will cold.
You need a deep 18mm socket, chrome not impact.
drain 1 gal of coolant via the petcock on the bottom of the rad.
re-use the copper washer if it doesn't come with the new part, just flip it over. 20 minute repair.

About a month ago, my friend was driving my V70 in stop and go traffic. The weather has gotten warmer and I'd forgotten about the disconnected radiator fan. Long story short, it overheated and I had it towed to the shop where fortunately they found no issues with the cooling system. But I had them install the thermostat housing

Sounds serious! hopefully there was no other damage to the engine.
On a old Toyota, I learned the hard way that lifting the hood and trying to cool down the engine is not always a good idea, as the exhaust manifold would cool at a faster rate than the engine block... This was made worse because it was the middle of a Michigan winter.
Where is the radiator cap BTW? Most other cars have one of these.
