Hi all, in tropical area where I live, is there any potential problem if we delete the heater core permanently? would cooling capacity decrease for the engine & tranny?
Thank you in advance

I would imagine it would be negligible, since when you do not use the fan to blow on the heater core, it already saturates with heat and I doubt the small surface area with just radiation alone could affect temps in any positive matter.
What would be better for temps is installing a second fan behind the front bumper that could kick in earlier than the main engine fan. These cars have very ineffective cooling from the water pump at idle. I even thought about installing a second, electric pump to circulate the water at idle more effectively. But it was only a passing thought.

I agree with the ineffective cooling on these cars. By extra fan you mean a visco fan? I already imagine the struggle putting it in, in already cramped engine baydikidera wrote: ↑15 May 2025, 03:03 I would imagine it would be negligible, since when you do not use the fan to blow on the heater core, it already saturates with heat and I doubt the small surface area with just radiation alone could affect temps in any positive matter.

I see, just consult with my local volvo specialist, these things worn out the seals faster, and could be troublesome for the tranny in the long run he said

Not even remotely true my guy. But you will need just a bit more atf, to compensate for the added volume of the cooler. I have not installed an AUX cooler yet, but I do have an external filter with strong neodymium magnets attached to it(emulating Magnefine but poor mans solution)volvothaifactory wrote: ↑16 May 2025, 01:54I see, just consult with my local volvo specialist, these things worn out the seals faster, and could be troublesome for the tranny in the long run he said![]()

I did the heater core bypass a few summers ago. I will be restoring it to original when i get the chance. I can see if i can take pictures of it tomorrow oh and my car is stick. The amount of coolant going to the heater core is very little.
As for the engine fan, even on hot days mine hardly activates, ive had to check it in VIDA to confirm its still working.
I modified my cluster a few years ago with this OBD2 temp/speed TFT display that reads of the cars computer. the temp while driving sits around 90c but stop for any length of time and it goes up . i have the alarm set at 106c and have not had it activate even on 35c days
