If you see one without "Auto" on it, it's not for a 98-00 70 series. Move on.
BTW - the Auto Down "relay" is in the switch. There is no Auto Up.
In fact, I'd just call Jamie of Don at DW and get a nice new one.
There's a lot to be said for just getting the right part the first time,
in new condition, no questions, 5 minute swap. Boom. DONE.

Power Window Master Control Switch Dead?
Thank you very much!
I will scratch that one off my list.
Actually it is my daughter's car and she is a little short of $$ right now. She wants a decent, working one, but not for $100 and up. The switch failed 200 miles from home and the route included 8-10 toll booths, and it was raining a little. She said she did not want to do that again!
There are several in the $50 - $70 range on an auction site.
Sunroof was iffy, but is closed now and she could not get the key out of the ignition yesterday. I'm going to get a new relay as well.

We're seeing this same window problem on my daughter's 99XC70.
My question is, is there a way to diagnose whether it's the master window switch or the circuit breaker (not actually a relay, it's a self resetting breaker that powers the windows and roof, at least in the 99 XC70)?
Is it one or the other or possibly both items (will a shorted switch burn up the breaker?)??
My daughter's car is showing this problem.
I'm inclined to think it's the switch (since I"ve seen smoke coming out of it a while back, though it continued to work fine at the time) but not sure how the circuits run.

Based on your observations the chances are very good that it is the switch. If you wish to track it all down here is a link to the schematics for your car.

This is a very slow site in Poland but the schematics are in English - be very patient for the download.

Thanks, Ozark Lee...I would assume if the switch were shorted and left long enough the relay/breaker might have burned out as well but we'll start with the switch and see what happens...there is a definitely different feel to some of the buttons.
I'll post the results next week when we know.

any luck with this. I have replaced the master control swith on my '98 S70 with both NON OEM & OEM and still nothing. The only window that works is the passenger front only by using the actual button on the door.

update from yesterday....
Problems:
Only one window in the car works: passenger front and only by the button on the passenger front door.
Mirrors do not work
Window lock does not work.
I have replaced the master controller with both an OEM and NON OEM comtroller...nothing.
All the fuses are good.
I swapped out relays 105 & 106 yesterday, nothing changed except......when I lock the doors via the master controller, they immediately unlock......serenity now. anybody have an idea????

It may be broken wires in the harness where it goes from the door to the connector on the A pillar. The wires flex when you open and close the door and they can ultimately break. I have S/V series schematics but I am on the road and they are not on the laptop. BEJinFBK has them as well and perhaps he could post the wire colors to pin-out portion for the switches to the connector. From there it is a matter of going after it with an Ohmmeter.

Lee, thanks for the input. The problem is in the harness on the A pillar, discovered that yesterday. I wrapped my fingers around it where it meets the A pillar and gave it a little twist and everything started working again. I fell a little better that I now know where the issue is, it's the fix that has me concerned now. Do the wires pass straight thru the A pillar or is there a connector right there that is accessible??Ozark Lee wrote:It may be broken wires in the harness where it goes from the door to the connector on the A pillar. How to bypass. I dont understand the schematic at all!
Here is how to roll it up in emergency.
So mine died too, sunroof too. Swapped fuse 37 for 39. No help. Unplugged master switch and sunroof worked. Tried cleaning, it worked to lower driver window 3" then died again. I pulled the plug off and figured black is ground, blue is power. Jumper in green to black and put jumper in green blue and touched blue for up. Also Green blue to black and green touched to blue for down.
Hope this helps
