Vinyl on Door Panels repair on Volvo S70
Re: Loose vinyl on door panels
i remember the bulletin that came out on these when i was a tech. they had new inserts that were to be installed after the old ones were torn out, all of the foam and glue removed and they had a kit with clamps, jigs that fit into the new insert and a glue gun for the epoxy. i did one set and on got clamped too hard and ended up ordering one new panel anyway. there was one guy that did about 99% of them. then after a while the kits were discontinued and new panels had to be ordered to fix it. my 98 is doinf the same thing.

I've not seen an S/V70 with leather seats on craigslist that does not have this problem except for the Rs. Take a look on CL at the NA base models. They have cloth in there and it doesn't delaminate. If you guys could find a nice set of matching color panels at the wrecking yard, the velour, IMHO, would look better than those puckers.
....Just looked it up though, and the only interior color that was common to both leather and velour interiors was Graphite. I'll ask my wife if she is willing to take bids on hers.

I got a door panel from the junk yard and commissioned a guy to recover it hoping that if he did a good job I'd take him my actual door inserts. After $50 and a smile, I never went back to him- it was a horrible job. I do like the idea of something that bends but keeps it's form used to lay over the inner part that puckers and drilling and bolting or somehow attaching them over the vinyl portion.

I'm currently doing this on my 06 beetle, Florida sun and humidity, plus high tech, low durability assembly methods=don't last long
Also trimming aircraft panels, best bet for home fix is to pull panel, slowly work the old covering off with a putty knife or similar, working to separate the glue. Scrub the panel and back of fabric down with putty knife then Scotchbrite to get the glue/foam off. If youuse goo gone or similar, let it dry, then spray paint or seal it. Then use spray interior/headliner glue to the whole thing. your original cover should hold the shape. Also, double sided tape can be used, upholstery supply stores have heavy duty stuff. Another tip is to use a thin suede material, it can stretch some, and the nap can disguise a little stretch.

Hello all V70 owners! While driving 3 Volvo's V70 Classic in our Wolvengang network, we commissioned ourselves to solve the everlasting door panel issue on this famous car. We just passed the second test and found a simple and (cost) effective repairkit solution. And our partners will ship worldwide. We are now awaiting the results from the third test. One thing: do not start glueing the panel yourselve: you WILL ruin it!
Although our website is still in Dutch, the door panel section is in English. We'll keep you informed! This is us: http://www.wolvengang.com/#!classic-van-de-zaak/c205l

Hello you all! Message here from overseas: we are working on a sturdy but simple and inexpensive repairkit called PANELPADS to solve this problem WITHOUT having to remove the panels of your car. We found the working principle already, still working on the finishing touch, and we will ship overseas. You can get more information on:
http://www.wolvengang.com/#!commitment-english/oj5uu
Or follow this project on Twitter #panelpads.
ATTENTION! Do NOT try to glue the vinyl back on the panel in whatever way unless you are an absolute upholstery professional! It will do more harm than it will help.

Bumping this- appears to be just under $80 for this kit for 4 doors, apparently with shipping included.
If anyone gets one of these kits, please post up as to how things worked out!

I found 4 threads on the same topic of these door panels with Wolvengang posting on all 4 about his product, so I made this the official place to interact with him, report on this product, etc. So, please post here regarding this. It seems like a very good product that would take care of the door panel de-laminating issue with our cars! If another mod feels differently about this action, please message me, etc. and we'll decide a possibly different/better course!
