...This is me slamming my head against the wall.
Car had the 302mm rotors when purchased, someone along the line upgraded to big brakes.
R16 tires. Brake caliper bracket says ATE 485.
Calipers I was sold are apparently for the stock 280mm and therefore don't fit.
I see FCP lists the bracket (OEM-8251319) (which I assume I don't need to replace since they seem fine, just the calipers are shot) as fitting a 2000 V70R. So if I go back to the shop and get calipers for that model that's what I need?
(edit: I just need the right part number to go by... yay learning curve for working on volvos...)

Welp... after hauling the gear up there, the good gents at O'Reilly are of the opinion that I can mix-n-match the brackets with the new calipers. Guess I'll give that a whirl. I wouldn't be so jumpy in my noob-ness if it was my DD and not my kid's... I'm about to have to change out the AC compressor clutch on the Baja and that's going to be another romp at the junkyard.

Calipers should be the same on 280mm and 302mm brackets. It is only the bracket that changes to allow bigger rotors to fit as far as I understood it.
Vida (Volvo parts system) is totally confusing for calipers as it has a huge list of calipers, but it is complicated further as they include 'kits' and exchange units and new units all with different part numbers. So they have 3 'new' part #'s and 4 exchange unit part numbers but they have so many cross references I am confused! I am still of the opinion that the calipers are the same, but it is the brackets that come with the caliper that give the different part numbers.
I have always understood to go from 280mm to 302mm brakes just takes the caliper bracket to change and the bigger rotors. The problem the PO may have had is that the 302mm brackets were un-available for a long time as so many were sold for upgrades. FCP did get a batch in but I am not sure if they still have any as they were a hot commodity (sorry not trying to plug FCP, but they do have stuff that others don't). So the PO may have had to 'downsize to keep the car running when the brackets were worn out.
Some of the re-build units come with the correct 302mm brackets remanufactured, but the problem is they want the originals back.
Neil.

I did go bounce around on FCP and the brackets I do have are back on "backorder/no ETA".
Everything went together fine with old bracket/new reman caliper, all was copacetic... and only when I went to put the clip on to finish the job did I discover that there was a broken-off piece of old clip inside the %$#@ caliper. WTF?!
Trying to bang it through and out but I'm guessing the remanufacturing process may as well have welded it in there.
SO frustrated! Didn't even occur to me to check such a thing. If I can't clear it in the next 20 minutes I'm taking it back and exchanging it in the morning. Feh.
~just drilled it out.

Stuck piece of clip in brakes, ugh. Hit Joel up for a voucher for having to finish the part manufacturing!

Glad it worked out. I really hope FCP can get more of the 302mm brackets soon as they are a really hot item!
Any FCP guys looking at this thread?! Please take note!!!

AZ was fine with taking back the old calipers with the too-small brackets that came from the new ones as cores, for whatever that's worth, as no way was I giving away the ATE 485 302mm/12" rotor brackets.

All that's left now is to bleed/flush the system. Brake fluid looked a bit dark and I've only had the Falcon since January so zero idea of when a full flush was last done. I have a Mityvac though I know the two-mech technique is said to be better... just really hoping the ABS doesn't pitch a fit.
The hoses seemed in alright condition and came away from the old calipers easily enough but I'm super sceptical; I really should have anticipated replacing those as well, but then again this entire repair began as "hopefully it just needs new pads" and became rotors, calipers and pads...
it's a 17 y/o car, every repair is bound to become a rabbit hole.

Maybe it is the angle of the picture, but are the rotor solid rotors? I would have expected them to be vented, even the 97 850 NA we have has vented rotors.
Curious,
