Thanks jkatz, sounds like a plan just in case mine has been damaged beyond the cartridge.

I would remove the cartridge from the donor turbo and swap it in.
The alternative is you have to detach rear exh turbo half from the manifold. Not fun and potential for snapped studs in the manifold.

Saw a couple of Japanifolds for sale. Will see what providence brings in terms of the turbo then decide whether to go all out or be conservative. Thanks.

Health issue started around the holiday's in 2022. Found out in Jan this year have Stage 3 Cancer. Will find out if I am able to arrest the growth in the late April appointment coming up. Friend came to help with some home projects to prep my parents home for sale as dad passed the same day I found out about my Stage 3 while in the Emergency. All that to say due to the health issue friend told his son who is an aircraft mechanic and he came and repaired 3 cars and helped sell one of them to his friend.

I told him I read somewhere you can split the turbo in the car to replace the CHRA. It turned out to be easy for him. Also drilled the lower driver's side plastic of the turbo to drain the oil then drove it for a couple of days till smoke no longer came out of the exhaust nor drips from the hole while parked. Most of the oil came out of the turbo after drilling and then running at idle for a bit with a few revs here and there. Just plug it up with a very, very small generic door clip like that of the S60 door panel. Passed inspection without issue.

For some reason the steering wheel was loose so centered, tightened and did a DYI alignment with Zero Toe. Car drives well but will give it a through going over, replace the front struts and alternator when my health is better otherwise fine now as a daily. The new tires are pretty good also and have them on the 08 C30.

that is a video of what not to do.

No need for an impact, they're just banjo bolts.
don't remove the cast iron exh half of the turbo from the exh manifold.
no need to remove the oil drain pipe. ( it comes out with the turbo no problem.)

Robert gives more expert direction than the typical clown show youtube video.

Just going through the post and it was here that you mentioned to split turbo in car. Told the aircraft mechanic I remember someone mentioning it and it was pretty easy for him.

Friend's son the aircraft mechanic installed the turbo CHRA early in the year at 153K miles. Almost time for an oil change 157K miles.

Found this part disconnected? Any reason for being unplugged, what's it's function? What may be some effects whether noise or running problems when unplugged and or if the part is defective? Cars seems to run very well and strong with very good shifts.

Part (Red), Plug (Yellow) & Zip Tied.

Is Upper Trans Hose The Fluid Outlet / Flow From Trans For Gibson Method?

- Vacuum Pump system for brake during initial startup.
I guess you can leave it unplugged.

- Re Green clip upper hose, I think for P2 cars, ATF is flowing out of the Upper Outlet.
I posted a DIY ATF for the 2005 XC90 here...

The do fail, so maybe it was disconnected to stop it throwing a code?
