Re: Low charging voltage - New batt, new voltage regulator
Thanks for that tip. Mine looked pretty good. I pulled it off while the car was running, and stuck a multimeter to it. I was getting battery-level voltage at that wire. I am getting a $50 alternator from the local used parts shop. I'm going to see if that makes any difference.

Re: Low charging voltage - New batt, new voltage regulator
Check the terminals at the battery - they must be free of corrosion and tight on the battery posts. If this looks good, inspect the cables for swelling indicating internal corrosion. This has happened to others. Check the voltage output at the alternator. volvolugnut Thanks! The terminals all look ...

Low charging voltage - New batt, new voltage regulator
Hi Everyone! Recently, my son's 2004 XC70 started exhibiting a weak battery. When I put a multimeter on the battery leads with the engine running, it was showing less than 12 volts. Last week, we replaced the voltage regulator with a new Bosch unit because the old brushes were a bit worn down. The v...

PSI for Motive Brake Bleeder?
Hey friends! Quick question: what is the recommended PSI for a Motive power bleeder on a single-circuit system? Here's the backstory: My son and I are bringing a 1966 122s back from the dead. So far, we have: Replaced master cylinder Replaced fron calipers Replaced all rubber hoses Replaced front ro...

Re: What order do you use when installing a timing elt?
Nevermind! I found the answer myself. 1. Install the belt ont he crank pulley 2. Stuff a bundled up rag under the crank pulley to prevent the belt from falling off. 3. pass the belt up the right side, past the idler pulley 4. keep the belt tight as you wrap it over the intake cam 5. send it over the...

What order do you use when installing a timing elt?
I'm ready to throw some dang tools over here. Please help... Working on a 2004 XC70 with dual VVT cams. I have the cam locking tool in place. I set up the cam hubs so their forward-most (clockwise) play aligns all the timing marks on the sprockets and the timing cover. I align the timing marks on th...

Re: CVVT Hub Replacement (How to DIY) - P2
This document is immensely helpful, but I have a question about the blue hub on my 2004 xc70: Two weeks ago, I removed it to replace the cam seals. (yes, I used the locking tool and made my marks). Over that time, the hub leaked out a lot of oil. Now, when I go to reinstall it (center bolt snug, but...

How to set dual VVT timing sprockets?
Hi everyone! I want to get my timing job done this weekend, and I need one more piece of information. My car is a 2004 model with the dual VVT system, so it has two of the movable hubs. I made all my markings before removing them. I marked the left and rightmost play in them. And I have the cam lock...

Re: Camshaft Locking Tool Instructions
Use a T55 bit to remvoe the big torx screw in the middle of the hub. That screw is basically an oil cap. Then there is another, longer t55 bolt directly behind. Remove that bolt and then you can pull the hub straight off the camshaft end.

Re: Camshaft Locking Tool Instructions
By the way, my tool bolt holder did not line up so, I employed your "janky setup", exactly like you did yours and it worked right for me. It's tight and snuggled. Thanks for the photo. You should leave a review on the Amazon. I'm going to. I'm astounded that it had 4.5 stars when the tool...
