The shifter shaft is held in place by a U-shaped plate. As I got the drive shaft freed up after removing the solenoid,
I was able to drive the car. But I can't do an emissions test because the driver's door won't open, nor will the window go down (both required for emissions testing in Colorado.

It was just a piece of plastic peeling off. I still haven't figured out how to get this connector freed up.

Here is a better photo. There seems to be a metal tab on the bottom left of the connector. Otherwise all the other spaces are empty gaps.

Have you checked for positive crankcase pressure by seeing if a glove inflates when you put it over the hole after removing the oil cap?
