Buying advice 1987 Volvo 240

I've had a 2000 V40 for a while and have worked on it extensively. I'm totally a Volvo guy now, and there is a 1987 240 sedan with new paint available near me. What should I look out for with this car? It's got 126k on it and new paint, and that's about all I know other than the AC is not currently ...

Re: Head Gasket Replacement 2000 Volvo V40

Whew. Looks like my fatalistic thinking got the best of me. The compression test came back fine and they said the head gasket seemed fine, so maybe we're looking at an injector acting up.

Head Gasket Replacement 2000 Volvo V40

2000 Volvo V40 (4 cylinder) I had a radiator go on me about two weeks ago, and after replacing all that, I started getting a misfire on cylinder 3 in the mornings after sitting overnight. I pulled the number 3 plug and there was a little oil on the threads. Ignition coils are fairly new. I'm having ...

Re: Windshield Washer check valve repair

I bypassed the check valve a while back after having broken it during diagnosis. Now that I'm replacing my pump and have a new check valve, it's been so long that I have forgotten which port the "in" hose goes to. Can you remind me?

Re: Removing the Bumper to Replace Washer Motor??? Topic is solved

Whew, thanks. I had looked up the procedure and really did not want to have to go to all that trouble of removing the bumper to replace an $11.00 part. I had planned to start with the splash guard and then see what I could see, so thanks for the confirmation.

Removing the Bumper to Replace Washer Motor??? Topic is solved

I'm going to be replacing the windshield washer pump motor in my 2000 Volvo V40 this weekend. Has anyone else done this? Do I really have to remove the bumper? Hoping there is a hack to get around that.

Re: Srs System Safety - Removing The Steering Wheel - 2000 V40 Topic is solved

So on the 2000, you definitely have to remove the steering wheel. The turn signal lever has two screws on the back that you have to remove, and the only way to get to them is to remove the steering wheel and the mount that the washer stalk and turn signal stalk are attached to. The procedure I linke...

Re: Srs System Safety - Removing The Steering Wheel - 2000 V40 Topic is solved

I did not have to remove the steering wheel to remove and repair the signal switch / stalk on my 2001 S40. I do remember needing a small Phillips screwdriver though. Hmmm....I don't see how that's possible looking at the procedure here https://workshop-manuals.com/volvo/v40/l4-1.9l_turbo_vin_25_b42...

Re: Srs System Safety - Removing The Steering Wheel - 2000 V40 Topic is solved

Are there any gotchas? If I follow the procedure exactly and hook everything back up correctly, is there any danger the airbag will go off unexpectedly in the future?

OEM vs Aftermarket Window Regulators

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket window regulators? The OEMs are 270. Salvage OEM is 100. Aftermarket is in the 50-75 range. It's a 2000 V40 that just for around town type driving. I mostly just want to be able to pull up and get a taco without opening my door. :-)

Srs System Safety - Removing The Steering Wheel - 2000 V40 Topic is solved

I am going to be replacing my turn signal in my 2000 V40 this weekend and have researched the procedure, but just want to double check with someone who knows more than me about the airbag system. From what I can tell, if you disconnect the battery overnight, it should be fairly safe to remove the st...

Re: Front Control Arm Removal 2000 V40 Topic is solved

UPDATE: I was overthinking this. I just went out and just loosened the nut. I guess I was concerned that I needed a hex to hold the bolt in place, but that's not necessary. I can't seem to delete this post. Sorry everyone.

Front Control Arm Removal 2000 V40 Topic is solved

Is there any special trick to getting the ball joint end of the control arm out? There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of room between the nut and the axel. Is it possible to simply back the nut off and then slide the ball joint end of the control arm out? Last night I pulled and replaced the tie r...

Torque Specs for front end suspension/steering Topic is solved

This weekend I'm swapping out the control arms, sway bar end links, and tie rod ends. I'm having a hard time finding the torque specs on the interwebs for those parts. Anyone know where I could find that info for a 2000 Volvo V40?

Re: 2004 S40 1.9t

I had the same problem and replaced the transistor and even the climate control unit. Ultimately, it was the blower motor, which was super easy to replace. I got a cheaper motor than the original heavy Bosch. It's a little louder, but it beats not having heat and defrosting in the winter.

Re: Climate Control Module Troubleshooting

Ultimately, this turned out to be a bad blower motor. It finally went 100% kaput, so I had a local shop scan it to be sure and it was throwing the bad blower motor code. I swapped it out and it works like a champ now.

Re: Climate Control Module Troubleshooting

The "manual" mode is either on or off. If the unit is working, I can set it to any fan speed. If it's not, it's just dead. The fan control does nothing. I've hooked up my code scanner, but it's not throwing any code. I've cleaned the cabin temp sensor on both and both had a little dust bunny on them...

Bump Stops for Rear Struts Topic is solved

Next weekend, I'm going to be replacing the rear springs (they're broken) and struts in my 2000 V40. I had the wheels off today doing some other work and inspected what I could see of the parts and squirted a little WD40 on the bolts I'll need to work with. One dust cover boot is ripped up, so I'm g...

Climate Control Module Troubleshooting

I've looked at the other threads here, but don't see a solution. My climate control module has gotten more dodgy as time has gone on since I bought the car a few months back and now can go a day without working at all, which isn't great in the winter. When I first bought the car, I replaced the blow...

Cross Member ("Stay Bar") Purpose

I recently swapped out the lower engine mounts and had to remove the cross member (30883224) Volvo calls the stay bar before removing the larger cross member the mounts attach to. It looks like it comes off and bolts back on easy enough, but I'm just wondering if there is anything special needed whe...

Mystery Wire in Engine Compartment

I've spent some time looking over diagrams and images of 2000 Volvo V40 engine compartments and cannot seem to figure out what this wire is (yellow terminator). Can anyone on here help? I just bought this car and noticed that this particular wire terminates near one of the ignition coils, but only a...
