P80 Cylinder head work water pump and water pipe screws 985151

Post by abscate »

In middle of head job and I don't like the looks of my water pipe screws I removed.

Luckily the same part is used to hold the water pump and I have spares

Its a blind hole for the water pipe unlike the water pump, so no sealer required

Gasket 1236119

Bolt 985151
Flange screw M7 10mm hex x 30mm - to be confirmed

man, the internet is full of false stuff

The bolts measure

M7 shank
10 mmHex
Overall length 32mm
thread length/depth is 24mm

You don't need the sealant for the water pipe, it comes on the bolt because it also used on the water pump (Qty7) where you DO need the sealant.

Torque nominal 17 Nm

Hey abscate, can you add a picture of the location of the offending article if you have a chance? For the life of me I can't picture what bolt you are talking about and where it fits.

Thanks for the great info. Appreciate you taking the time to document this kind of stuff for us.

These bolts (firewall side of the head) have to be the absolute worst part of installing the head.

There is a secret. Leave off the last exhaust stud untIl after you fit the gasket and bolts for the water pipe.

Use straight pick to hold top gasket in position, install lower bolt loosely

Remove pick, install upper bolt

Plan B

You could also glue the gasket to the head with permatex , then thread the bolts without fussing with gasket

+1 Always a little bit of silicone on one side of the gasket so it stays in place when head is put back on.
I never put any sealant on WP bolts, never had a leak so far. Maybe I'm just lucky.
