In response to the strong demand for their new electric vehicle, the Volvo EX30, Volvo Cars has made the strategic decision to commence production of this exciting model at their Ghent plant in Belgium, starting in 2025. This move will significantly expand their production capabilities for the highly acclaimed compact SUV.
This will not move production from China, but rather will add a second production location in Belgium.
Production of the EX30 had already commenced this autumn in Zhangjiakou, China, with the first deliveries to customers scheduled for later this year. By extending production to Ghent, Volvo Cars aims to meet the growing demand for the EX30 in Europe and for international exports, aligning with their commitment to manufacturing vehicles in the regions where they are sold.
This decision not only amplifies production capacity but also provides added versatility for a model expected to become one of the company’s top sellers in the upcoming years. This strategy follows Volvo Cars’ successful approach of manufacturing their popular XC60 and XC40 SUVs in both Europe and China.
