This takes the cake for repair bill stories. In 10 years of running this site, I’ve never heard of something like it.
So I added up the repair receipts that came with my 1997 850R that I bought from a friend.
They totaled $31,412.00
Less body work $8,055.00
Volvo’s MSRP was $38,685 for an 850 R model year 1997. That was the MSRP of the R sedan, not wagon. An 850 R wagon would have subtracted $40,135 from your wallet — and neither number includes Volvo’s “destination” charge of $495. Options could have put it a bit higher, but I don’t think there were many/any for R Volvos in 1997.

Anyway, if it’s a sedan, the repairs + body work = exactly 80% of the cost of the car.
