960 spark plug loom sequence

Let’s talk 960 spark plug loom sequence

I have made an amateur’s mistake. I was changing the plugs in my 95 960. This is, of course, the inline 6.

I was removing the loom (with coil pack over each plug) from the front (radiator) side of the car towards the windshield. It was obvious that they each were loom terminated over the assigned cylinder. I didn’t think much of it, and popped off the remaining packs. However, 4,5,6 have pretty much the same length of loom.

That leaves an random 6 possible combinations. But there is more. As I try to fire each new combo I build up gas, making the car harder to start. So what may be the correct sequence might actually be guessed as wrong.

I know that I cannot be the only one who has ever done something like this. However, I cannot find record of such. How, in Thor’s name, came you determine which pack goes over which cylinder?

billofdurham » After lots of digging I have found the firing order is 153624, 1 being at the front of the engine.

This may help:

Each coil has two wires one of which is green/red. The other wires are:
Plug #1 red/white.
Plug #2 white/black.
Plug #3 orange.
Plug #4 green/yellow.
Plug #5 yellow/brown.
Plug #6 violet.
