Last of the Two-Door Bricks: 1991 Volvo 780 Bertone Coupe
This 1991 Volvo 780 is a good looking, final model year example of the marque’s top-tiered luxury coupe. These Bertone-styled cars have a lot more presence in person than photos would suggest, and the seller says that this one runs very well with fully functional accessories. A little over 8,500 were built, and good ones have been difficult to find for at least a decade now. Find this one here on eBay in Palmyra, Pennsylvania with reserve not met.
The 780’s lines are still distinctly Swedish, but softer edges and a slightly lower roofline lend a touch more elegance. Exterior cosmetics look to be very good overall, with no damage or missing trim. Rust is said to be a non-issue, glass and lenses show very nicely, and trim is still quite fresh looking as well. Handsome OEM basketweave wheels have been retained, and new pads and rotors were recently installed at all corners.
The interior shows an efficient and straightforward design typical of Volvos from this era, but with a few upmarket touches such as a hardwood-trimmed dash and incredibly comfortable leather seats. All accessories are reported to be functional including the clock, and mileage is listed at 161k and change. The period car phone is fun to look at, but we’d probably remove it as it’s rather clunky. The cassette deck could stay.
Full power adjustability with heat function was standard spec, and seats look remarkably well-kept for the claimed mileage.
