Volvo always has taken road illumination seriously, but now it sounds like they’ve moved it up a notch. I’ve never had the notion that Volvo was a leader in headlight tech. Volvo headlights have always been good enough, but I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to an owner who praised their headlights. (That seems to be changing a bit in Volvo’s favor, but only very recently.)

Awesome nighttime road illumination technology/research has been the domain of the Germans — Porsche, Mercedes Benz, etc. So there’s been room to improve, and Volvo’s doing it now.

This means they’re making the EX90 headlights with color temperature in mind, because long drives at night with the wrong color temperature illuminating the road can cause eye fatigue. You’ve seen ridiculous very blue headlights on untastefully-modified cars at night… this is that. Those guys are definitely causing themselves fatigue using those headlights.
