These are good questions. Why? No other Volvo model in North America offered a wider range of engines over its life. The first generation XC90 debuted in 2003 with Volvo’s bulletproof 2.5 turbo inline-five cylinder. From there, things went all over the map, starting with the T6 which suffered from an understrength automatic transmission. Then the V8 came, and finally the unloved naturally-aspirated 3.2 inline-six https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_SI6_engine.
