I just replaced the bad fuel pump in my 98′ S70 base with this Bosch one, and since I didn’t see anything regarding this particular pump on the forum I thought I would share how it went. This is on the later assembly with the short insert, not the earlier with the taller insert and the retaining spring.
It’s not a direct bolt in, but with a little modification, I think it’s a fairly inexpensive option, that’s also good quality. It’s made in the Chech Republic, which is where a lot of Bosch parts are made. It comes with a nice filter screen as well. I paid $127 with tax included. Not bad compared to the cost of a new whole assembly.
Disassembly of the unit is pretty straight forward. Once you have the pump assembly out of the car, three things need to be done to get the old pump out.
- First undo the electrical connector.
- Secondly undo the clamps on the fuel tubing.
- Lastly you will have to push in 2 tabs on the bottom of the assembly, which will then enable you to slide the pump insert out the bottom. They are in the location of the arrows in this photo:

The Bosch pump comes with a plastic sleeve, which has to be removed. I did 2 cuts with a Dremel, about 180 deg apart. This way the housing will come right off. I sealed off the intake and output port with painters tape so no debris can get inside the pump.
On the intake side there need to be a few more cuts. This is needed so the plastic tube where the filter screen attaches stays in place.

Now the new pump fits snugly into the insert. Just make sure the intake lines up the cutout for the filter screen like this:
Re- assembly is very straight forward in reverse order. You may want to use new fuel hose and clamps. The electrical connector fits perfect.
