RIP Care by Volvo, EX90 Rolls Out to Customers, XC90 Upgraded
Care by Volvo is dead in the US, according to InsideEVs. Care by Volvo was launched in 2017, but recently has run up against dealer opposition in several US states. Being cut out of Volvo sales, dealers never liked it for obvious reasons.
At the time of this writing, the US Volvo web site makes no mention of this.
EX90 Rolls out feature incomplete
The fully electric Volvo EX90 is now rolling out: the initial batch of this flagship SUV from Volvo is being dispatched to dealers across the United States and Europe, with the first customers expected to take delivery before the month’s end. Volvo plans to scale up these deliveries, extending to further markets from the final quarter of 2024 through to the first quarter of 2025.
The EX90 — to be released non feature-complete — marks Volvo Cars’ new flagship model, setting fresh benchmarks for the company in safety, sustainability, and technology focused on enhancing human experience.
In the testing phase of this new flagship, Volvo placed stringent demands on the EX90, rigorously testing its capabilities. Volvo’s CEO, Jim Rowan, has been at the helm of these tests for several weeks. Accompanied by colleagues, he drove the EX90 on an extensive road trip from Volvo’s manufacturing facility near Charleston, South Carolina, to California.
XC90 Marches On, But Redesigned
There are no gasoline-only models now… plugin or mild hybrid only
The XC90 gets a substantial series of upgrades, including a new center display screen: “To further enhance the experience inside the new XC90, we’ve installed a larger, 11.2-inch, free-standing central screen. We’ve also increased the pixel density by 21 per cent, resulting in an even crisper display.”
Changes: exterior styling tweaks including new grille and headlights, additional storage space in the centre console, the dashboard has a more horizontal shape than before, there is an additional cupholder, and Volvo designers placed the wireless phone charger behind the central tunnel, separate from the main storage area
Production is scheduled to begin in late 2024, with first customer deliveries set to start around the end of the year
