Is a non-functional temperature gauge related to a volvo thermostat issue? Do you need information on how to replace a volvo thermostat on the Volvo S60? The volvo thermostat is a device which regulate and limit temperature within the internal engine cooling systems. They are meant mainly to maintain the engine at its optimum operating temperature primarily through the regulation of coolant flow. Usually thermostat problems are that they either remain stuck in an open or closed position. This causes various complications with the cooling system and engine of the car.

I can’t figure this one out. On my 97 850 GLT (wagon), the temperature gauge runs just around 10 o’clock and not at 9, like it should. This started about 14 months ago. The dealer changed the volvo thermostat and the sensor in the housing, and still, it seems to run warm. According to a coolant test, it was at just the right temperature.
I wouldn’t worry, except that I live in Florida, where heat is a factor. Also, the exhaust seems to have a slight leak at the manifold. I don’t know if they are related problems (and which caused which ?).
Any feedback would be appreciated.

It sounds like it is running about where it should be. As long as it comes up to that temp and stays there, it should be fine. Your old volvo thermostat was probably getting weak or was rated for a slightly lower temp. I don’t believe there is any connection between that and your exhaust leak.

My mechanic broke the thermostat housing where it attaches to the engine. Due no doubt to an over aggressive effort trying to loosen one of the t40 star screws. My question: how long to replace and a cost.
