Let’s talk Volvo XC90
Take it with a grain of salt, but a site called 4autoinsurancequote.org has named the Volvo XC90 the least expensive automobile in the US to insure. The ranking was picked up through a press release and publised at SFGate.com, and spread from there.
I’m not calling around to different insurance companies to verify the results of this story, namely the XC90‘s insurance costs vs other cars and SUVs, but it does make sense now that — from my informal research — the biggest cost to insurers is medical and the follow-on lawsuits from injury of car occupants. The fewer the number of injuries in a crash, the less the insurance company has to pay. As we all know — all us Americans anyway — medical costs are astronomical these days. A hospital stay cost makes the cost of replacing a car or car parts look like pocket change.
I have an email in to my insurance agent to verify my theory. I’ll update this post when I hear from him.
Whatever the case, even if the XC90 is not actually the first in this ranking but rather simply in the top ten, that’s still very interesting to me, and good news to XC90 owners specifically, and Volvo owners in general.
