This is actually from another site, (Thanks to Syrup from S.S.), but I found it so good I decided to copy it here. […]
I post CL ads I find quite regularly in the MVS Forums’ Classifieds. I don’t have any involvement with any of them — I’m not the seller and don’t know the seller or the car. I always put a disclaimer in my posts like: I don’t know the seller, don’t know the car, don’t know anything beyond what the ad says, and don’t have any interest in this sale. This post is intended to potentially provide a match between an MVS member and his future Volvo, or generate discussion because of the car’s rarity, beauty, or low price.
MVS Forums member Robert shows us in a YouTube video how to do a key winterization procedure: “I flushed the coolant system in my 850. This process should be the same for most FWD Volvos, including the S70, V70, S40, C70, etc.” Coolant System Flush, Volvo 850, S70, V70 – Video
So, when it is cold, the ECU injects extra fuel to start the engine. The problem is, when the ECT fails, it usually fails in “HOT” position (short-circuit inside the sensor), I have these 2 symptoms:
Aux fan runs on its own for about 6 minutes or so.
Hard start when COLD (ECU thinks it is hot and no need to inject extra fuel when it is COLD).
Airbags Deployed, Good Volvo is Now Scrap One month ago my wife had a little crash into the back of a other car during “take off” on a traffic light. No other visible collision damage than few scratches on the front/tail bumper but… all air bags and belt tensioners fired, what means for me, that […]
Bottom line, lowering your car makes it handle noticeably better which is why you would do it in the first place. On the other hand they ride very poorly at slow speeds.

The RPM are 840 on both “N” and “D”, however when I throw it on the “N”, the sound goes away.I tried, having it on “D” and holding the brakes, to raise RPM to about 1100, and that is when the noise is most evident. The best described it is a very low intensity roar and slight vibration.
Getting to the Speakers To get at the speakers you must first fold down the rear seat, and remove the 2 bolsters on either side of the rear seat attached to the metalwork above the rear wheel well. Remove the bolsters by pulling out at the top towards the front of the car, and then […]
MVS Contributor firestix: First off I read some post that said you had to take the door off to get the switch out. Not for me. I simply pulled it out with my fingernail. You might want to pry it out with a cloth covered screwdriver. Here it is out and flopping about. You might […]
Below is a handy SAS diagram for Volvos with the “white” block 5-cyl engines, namely some 1996 and all 1997 850 models, S70, XC70 and V70 up to year 2000, and C70 up to year 2004.
I wrote a short and sweet DIY for Oil Change using wood ramps and no need to jack the car up. Basically as sweet and simple as possible! You can do this for under 30 minutes. [Have a newer Volvo? See this S80, S60 and V70 2001+ Oil Change DIY forum topic.] NOTE: Best is […]
I posted my 1996 850 starter replacement tutorial as an addendum to Tina’s outstanding 1998 S70 starter replacementtopic. Plan on 3 hours, if you’re an average DIY mechanic like I am. You don’t need exotic tools, just 10mm-14mm ratchet, and a T20 and T25 Torx bit. These Gen 1 cars are pretty much all the […]
