I just did the repair on my 93 850 and would like to share the tools I made to make this really easy with no damage to the leather or plastic.
With some patience and basic mechanical knowledge, you can do this repair in 1 or 2 hours with a cost of less than $5 dollars.

The plates are available at your hardware store for .50 cents.

It is easiest when you have a second set of hands to hold the plates while you spread them with a stiff putty knife and saw the clip.

I like the plan. From looking at your “tools” I think step flashing used in roofing would work as well.

I just read your glovebox repair post.My glovebox lock/latch assembly in my 94 850 was already broken when I bought the car used last year. I attempted a repair myself. Though not as permanent, perhaps,or as elegant a repair as the nice one above,it’s quick and expedient.
It was always dropping down. The previous owner had tape holding it.
I- being on a budget ; simply put some industrial strength Velcro against the surfaces that face you when you open the glovebox, and on the opposing surface of the lid itself. Problem solved for under 1 American Dollar.
Hope it helps someone.
