Volvo news is still dominated by safety
It’s official! Safety innovations are still making Volvo news.

Volvo has a stellar history as a leader in passenger vehicle safety innovation. In 1959 the company introduced the three-point safety belt, one of the most important safety innovation ever invented. Since then Volvo has introduced many more world firsts in safety, including the rearward-facing child seat, the Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), the inflatable curtain, roll stability control, and many more. Research shows these innovations have saved more than one million lives.

Volvo News or Wishful Thinking?

Rumor has it that Volvo is preparing to launch two new crossovers, according to dealers who spoke on the condition of anonymity with Automotive News. The two new crossovers – the XC100 and C40 – will grow the automaker’s lineup with two innovative vehicles.

The proposed XC100 is a long way from a Swedish brick, but we like where this is headed!

The XC100 will give Volvo a luxury flagship SUV while the C40, a coupe-style version of the XC40 crossover, will give the brand a modern update for younger buyers. Sounds like a good plan, but we’ll have to wait and see if these new models make the cut.

Not So Fast!

Volvo recently announces it will go ahead with plans to introduce an electronic speed limiter across its model range. First announced in early 2019, the limiter will cap the top speed of Volvos on at 180 kph (approximately 112 mph). The innovation will be implemented on all models beginning with the 2021 catalog.

The need for speed has taken a back seat to Volvo safety.

112 mph is well above the legal speed limit for most public roads around the globe, though it will put a damper on Volvo fans who enjoy track days or high-speed jaunts on Germany’s Autobahns. The limiter won’t be implemented on models from Volvo’s sister brand Polestar for now.

The 2020 Volvo S60 Looks Like a Million Bucks (But costs a lot less!)

Redesigned for 2019, the 2020 Volvo S60 rolled into the new decade with a swagger. From the sophisticated style and advanced safety to the intuitive onboard technology and surprising base price, the 2020 S60 ushered in a model that could finally compete in the luxury mid-size sedan arena.

“Ahem, I have a similar issue of getting under my cars. My chest appears to have slipped downwards and joined with my waist moving upwards. My solution is to build a very expensive garage and put a hoist in it (hopefully!!).”
