The Official XC60 Forum Welcome

This is just like any of the other Volvo car forums here on MVS: post requests for help, advice, your thoughts on this model, and photos of your XC60.

If you have a dedicated, longer-length opinion piece on the XC60, please post that here, then I’ll move it to the “Opinion” forum (and it will have a pointer from here to there).

My $.02 is that they look really good. I viewed a couple from outside the dealer’s showroom yesterday. Pretty cars.

Bonus! 10 Interesting Volvo Facts

  • In Latin, the word Volvo means: I spin. Today however the nearest meaning is “I roll”.
  • Volvo was founded in 1924. The two founders were Gustav Larsson and Assar Gabrielsson.
  • The ÖV 4 is the first Volvo car. The first car was sell-ready in 1927. The 2-Liter, 4-cilinder car got the nickname: Jakob.
  • Volvo’s very first commercial vehicle was the Type-1 truck. The release year was 1928. In the same year, Volvo released the second car, the Volvo PV 651. Volvo manufactured a total of 1383 of both vehicles in the first year; of which automaker exported 27.
  • This trend saw a sharp rise in 1932 when Volvo released a good amount of 10,000 vehicles, both trucks and cars.
  • The company, however, started making a large-scale profit from the year 1935. The first luxurious car by Volvo was the PV36, which could carry six passengers at a time. The design of this iconic car paved the path for future Volvo cars to come. I came in the market with a price tag of 8,500 Swedish kronor.
  • Volvo touched a landmark in 1941, with the sale of its 50,000th vehicle; this is a unique achievement considering the time when WWII was in full swing.

Major issues with our 2015 XC60. Started getting the low oil indicator light about every 500 miles. Took it to our dealership and they replaced our oil trap/PVC for $452. Continued to lose oil. Read on-line that oil leakage was a problem with this model/year. Kept adding oil as needed. While having a routine oil change at our trusted mechanics we explained about the oil consumption. They also checked the forums and made a small repair (can’t locate the receipt.) So on a recent holiday trip the “reduced engine performance” light came on. We pulled over and had the car towed. The dealership said oil had leaked into a cylinder and damaged the engine. They could not guarantee that replacing the cylinder would be a fix, and that more likely the entire engine would need to be replaced for about $11,000. Volvo Customer Service politely offered us a coupon worth $60 to help. Really, really, really disappointed and will continue to complain in every available forum until Volvo contacts us.
