Discovering a dead battery in the morning before work for the third time in a week can be a seriously frustrating experience. So, “Why does my Volvo battery keep dying?” is a question we’ve heard often enough.
Want to know why you have a Volvo battery draining problem? Check out some of the common issues we’ve compiled below.
4 Reasons Your Volvo Battery Keeps Dying
Accessories Left On
This one probably doesn’t come as a surprise. Most drivers know their battery could drain if the accessories are left on. Interior lights, headlights, stereo accessories, and other electrical components can cause a Volvo draining problem. If your car won’t start, double-check to make sure you’ve turned off all accessories.

Electrical Connection Fault There are hundreds’ of feet of wire running through your Volvo, sending electricity to various components and accessories under the hood and in the interior. Even the tiniest fault or bad connection can cause electricity to rapidly drain from your battery. You could also have a build-up of corrosion on the battery terminals that can interrupt connections with the battery.
An electrical component that malfunctions can even draw too much energy from your car’s battery, creating a “parasitic drain.” To detect parasitic battery drain, you’ll need sophisticated tools to measure electrical currents and track down the problem. If your Volvo is a more modern model, you may want to have a pro run diagnostics for you.

Faulty Alternator When your car sits with the engine off, your battery provides the power for things like interior lights and your sound system. But when you’re driving, the engine powers your alternator, which converts that power into electricity that recharges your battery. Your Volvo battery is constantly draining and recharging as you drive.
If the alternator stops working, your battery will eventually drain completely and your car won’t start. That’s why an alternator test would be a good next step. Depending on the issue, your alternator may need a rebuild or replacement.

Dead Battery Despite the technology behind Volvo’s charging system, all batteries eventually give out if they aren’t recharged. They can endure thousands of charging cycles, or about 5-7 years of ordinary use. Once your battery has died, it typically won’t be able to hold a charge and will need to be replaced.

“Why does my Volvo battery keep dying?”
“…Place an ammeter in series with one of the battery leads with ignition off. Wait 5 minutes for any modules such as PDM.and DDM to.shut down. Current drain should be under 100mA.
If it’s much higher you have a faulty component somewhere. Now remove fuses one by one and put them back in immediately until you find a fuse which lowers the current draw. Once you find the circuit which draws current you need to find out what that fuse is for.”

Original forum question:
I have a problem. i changed my battery friday after a few slow cranks and not starts. Ran fine after jumped. held charge fine while i was at work thursday. Friday was the no start and i changed it.
Yesterday car started fine, thought my battery problems were in the past. This morning it wouldnt start again. Battery wasnt dead, but not enought to get past the click on the starter. so i jumped it and started right up. started again on its own a couple hours later. I think somethings draining the battery.
After some research, I found a procedure to reconnect in position II and cycle locks with key so i just finished that. I didnt do that friday. If its dead again tomorrow morning what should i look for other that obvious lights and fans? Why does my Volvo battery keep dying?

xc60 2013 B6324S4 I have a parasitic drain that constantly fluctuates a range from 0845mA- 0735mA. Put in now a total of 4 new batteries and ALL fuses and Relays have been pulled with no change in readings. Put in a BRACE to the Sirius module. The only thing at night I see is the start stop button ocassionally lighting up.
if your alternator is not charging if you have rear heating seats check for defective switch do continuity check on lights could be poor grounding that will drain your battery
