I have a ’89 760t wagon. In order to get my roof to close all the way I have to manually push that black spring loaded thingy down to get it to close all the way. Now, having done that, if the roof comes too far forward the rear right side of roof actually seems to collapse and leaves a large gap. I can power it back to the position where the margines around the sunroof and are the same. Any solution to this?

It is a factory original, metal, and the piece that I have to hold down in order for the roof to completely close stretches from side rail to side rail and it appears as if the rollers on the actual sunroof are supposed to suppress the guard and push it down in order for it to close properly. I’ll see if i can locate the exact name for what I am calling a thingy.
If it’s the wind deflector,(blackplastic “thingy” at the front) then this is a common fault, take it off all together and see the result. There is a repair that you can make, fix a small piece of metal or stiff plastic about half way along 1 of the thin rods to stop it lifting all the way up.I’ll try and draw it up,and post it.
Experiencing The Inability to Close Sunroof?
Sometimes you may notice that your sunroof is no longer closing correctly due to the wind deflector not closing before the roof slides into the closed position. It appears to be a common issue with our RWD Volvos, and a couple of different solutions can be used.
More on the Volvo 760
With the 760 saloon, introduced in early 1982, Volvo entered the small number of manufacturers of prestige vehicles with superior comfort and high performance levels.
The 760 were a very distinguished car, which thanks to its uncommon rather angular design offered good interior space. The safety level was superior to both previous Volvo cars and to most competitors.
The ‘basic’ version of the 760GLE was driven by a developed version of the French V6 engine previously used in the 260 Series, but was later supplemented by a very fast 4-cyl. Turbo version with Intercooler and with a 6-cyl. Diesel version with Intercooler which thanks to good performance and low fuel consumption offered superior comfort over long distances and an unparalleled cruising range.
The most extensive change to the 760GLE saloon took place in 1987, when the frontal appearance was changed and a unique multi-link rear axle was introduced, together with hundreds of other major changes, making this a virtually new car.
