PCV Job - Special Tools Needed?

A few days ago MVS Forums member plumsmooth posted in the 850 Forum asking if there are special tools required for a PCV repair. Among the responses were tools such as a wobble socket extension and torx drivers of varying sizes.

…Got a genuine Volvo PCV kit.
I trying to gather my tools.
Seems I need a 10 inch extension. 1/4 inch? Swivel 10mm socket or wobble extension?
I have a 12mm ratchet wrench which will hopefully get the two lower manifold bolts?
Should I get a 1/4 inch torque wrench for the upper manifold bolts?
Anything else that anyone can think of that I might be missing, I would appreciate it.

10mm swivel socket works great on the manifold bolts. 1/4″ drive preferred, long extension, I have 10″ (I wish!)

regular 10mm socket and a 2″ to 4″ extension

12mm socket

side cutting pliers to remove the hose clamps, you can install them too if you’re careful

new o-ring for the oil dipstick tube

If you plan on removing the injectors from the rail, get all new o-rings and seals for them. I can and do remove the manifold on 850’s with the injectors in the manifold. I disconnect the fuel line fitting (14mm/15mm wrenches ?)

plumsmooth » Of course I also really like the use of the 12mm Ratcheting Wrench to get at the 2 12mm lower manifold bolts. Ideally I would like to be able to make visual contact with them!

However tomorrow my former mechanics stickers should be here and we’ll see if he gives me an inspection. This is also important!
