Interested in the famous VVIS install on your non-turbo 850? MVS super contributor Neil shows us how he did it back in 2012. Availability of this VVIS mod is not certain, let’s start there. Another important fact is that it works on 1993 and 1994 N/A 20-valve 5-cylinder Volvos, unless you want to look at […]
Longtime MVS Contributor Dosbricks developed a neat trick to permanently fix stuck airbox flap on non-turbo P80 Volvos like 850, S70 and V70. Many folks have discovered that almost all the thermostats on an NA airbox intake eventually fail in the heated air position choking off the the larger fresh air port. Last fall I decided […]
This thread documents that the P0106 code is often resolved by throttle body cleaning, not MAP sensor replacement. Saves users about 250 USD. Specific to the NA 2003 and 2004 Volvo P2 models. jkatz: Two years ago I bought a 2003 V70 FWD (no turbo) and I was getting an intermittent CEL that would come […]
MVS forums user Erik goes “full auto” and documents the vacuum lines on non-turbo Volvos in the P80 family: As a companion to a similar thread for turbo cars [vacuum line diagrams for turbo Volvo 850 and Gen. 1 S70/V70/C70/XC70], here is a thread dedicated to documenting the vacuum lines in the non-turbo (NA) 850 […]
So many times non turbo owners jump on the forums and ask what they can do to improve performance and power and are met with the old stand by answer, “Sell it and buy a turbo”. While this advice may actually be well intentioned, and possibly the best option for a high powered build, there are still ways to improve the performance of these non turbo models. Our scheduled build is intended to be very approachable to the average owner with off the shelf parts and tuning of our 1995 Volvo 850. So let’s start by outlining the build and talk about what we can expect.
Since mine is a Non-Turbo, there are minor different designs compared with Turbo Models. In addition, I will point to areas of possible problems for people. – Read the above write-up for Turbo. – Copy Radio AM FM channels, disconnect battery for safety. – Remove electrical connections to Throttle and Idle Valve – Remove these […]
“What would I need to convert my non-turbo Volvo 850 to a turbo?” We see this often. It’s a good question, one that many normally-aspirated 850/V70/S70 owners ask here. It gets philosophical pretty quickly, but one thing is for certain: it’s not worth the costs and time involved to convert. It’s far easier and less […]
The 20V non turbo Volvo 850 models had a variable inlet manifold, to increase engine efficiency. Well this topic is all about the control of this manifold and improve the behavior of the engine. OK you will reach not more hp’s but much better behavior and performance in low revs. Let me explain: While reading […]
